9/18/2022 - New Tenants

It used to be that birds lived in the big birdhouse.  Sparrows inhabited the large 8-plex I purchased for the back yard.  However, 3-4 years ago, red squirrels discovered that, by enlarging the doors, they could get inside.  Not only did they get inside the birdhouse, they completely remodeled the interior and made it their own.  A couple of weeks ago I was watching a female red squirrel that had recently moved in and thought she looked tired and maybe pregnant.  The next day I learned how wrong I was . . .
Helen (Reddy) was tired because the babies had been born and were starting to explore their environment.  Probably about 8 weeks old and still nursing.  No wonder she looked tired!

 No 'me' time for Helen.
Helen had 4 babies and they've been running all over the birdhouse and are now learning how to navigate the big lilac tree just a leap away.  Helen's been spending less time at home and will soon move out and leave the youngsters to fend for themselves.
