Winter bird photography has been stagnant due to temperatures below zero degrees F. That is just too cold to open the sliding door in order to get clearer photos - taking photos through the dual pane windows leads to distortion and blur. And the fact that it's generally the same birds every day means not much variety to excite the viewer (me). But today was warmer, at +32F, and sunny so lots of birds wanted to bathe. I was excited to notice this Sharp Shinned Hawk sitting in the birdbath this afternoon. It actually took a bath then flew into the lilac shrub to shake off and preen.
